RoadSafe Otway have held four successful Safe Plate days over the course of 2025 and 2026, fitting in excess of 400 cars number plates with anti-theft screws.
The aim of a Safe Plate Day is to make number plates harder to steal reducing the chances of number plates being used illegally in potential criminal activities.
RoadSafe Otway would like to thank our amazing volunteers who donated their time and skills not just on the day but the many unseen hours that go into the preparation of events like a Safe Plate Day.
The children and their leaders from Yesterday we held our fourth and very successful Safe Plate Day.

The children and their leaders from 3rd 4th Colac Scout Group are a wonderful, friendly bunch of cubs, scouts and venturers. These hardworking children assisted our volunteers with the removal and refitting of number plates. Community participation is a component of the Milestone badge, we thank them for their time and assistance and wish them all the best in achieving their Badge.
We are extremely grateful to the Colac Otway Shire Council Community Grants Program, who graciously funded all four of our Safe Plate Days and last but not least we would dearly like to thank Bunnings Warehouse Australia Colac store for the use of their carpark.
Without the support of all these wonderful people and organisations, community events like this would not be possible. 🙌

RoadSafe Otway with the assistance of our amazing volunteers attend many community events throughout the year. Below is a list of our upcoming events that we will be attending, events we have organised along with our monthly meetings.

Colac Driver Reviver is conveniently located on the Princes Highway at 494 Murray Street, Colac. It is a place for travelling motorists to stop for a much needed break, stretch their legs, use the restrooms and enjoy a free cup of Bushells tea or coffee, along with some Arnotts biscuits to ensure they are rested, recharged and ready to continue their journey in a safe manner.
We are open during peak holiday periods and major long weekends. Please see photo below for our upcoming opening hours.

2026 Bike Ed Challenge will be held on Thursday 15th October 2026, in the Commerce Pavilion at the Colac Showgrounds starting at 10am.
This is the culmination of schools efforts in the Bike Ed Program. Students will showcase their skills and knowledge of road laws relating to bicycles and compete for the Perpetual Trophy. Each participating school receives a plaque, and every student is awarded a medallion.
Observers and family are more than welcome to attend.
Congratulations to our 2025 Champions – Colac Primary School

It’s taking a long time but it is happening slowly, probably slower than 40kms. Observers will notice that some of the signs are in place but not yet officially operating.
Colac Police and RoadSafe Otway have been waiting for this to occur for some time. Bureaucracy has to be observed and slow to process.
Watch this space.
